What it covers
The seven Imperial departments that used the ESAT for 2025 entry: Aeronautics, Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Design, Electrical and Electronic, and Mechanical Engineering, and Physics. 8,704 applications with a department score, split into the groups Imperial reports: Home (widening participation or not) and Overseas.

Method
- Imperial's public dashboard counts applications by department, group, department score and outcome: an offer, interviewed without an offer, or not interviewed.
- The department score is the sum of the module scores. We divide it by the number of modules, three or two for Design Engineering, and put applications into one-point bands of that average, 1.0 to 1.9 up to 8.0 to 9.0.
- In each band we count applications and offers and give the share with a 95% Wilson range. Bands under 30 applications show counts only.
- Where a department records interviews, we also show the share that got an offer or an interview. That is not an interview-invitation rate: the dashboard does not show whether every offer followed an interview.
- 1,712 records with a department score of 0, which cannot be a real sum of module scores, are left out of every rate. Their count is shown for each group.
Uncertainty and limits
- These are 2025 applications on the 2025 scale; later years may differ.
- Counts are applications, not people: one person can apply to more than one department.
- Our copy of the dashboard matches its separately reported totals for all 57 department, group and outcome combinations, count for count.
- Selection is not a simple score rule. In Design Engineering, for example, applicants interviewed without an offer averaged more than offer holders.

What the answer means
The share of 2025 applications in that department and group with a similar average that ended in an offer. It is not your chance of an offer or an interview. Grades, the rest of the application and interviews count, and no score is safe or hopeless. Life Sciences has no 2025 ESAT figures, so it is not covered.

Questions people ask
What ESAT score do I need for Imperial?
Imperial publishes no ESAT pass mark, and the same score led to very different outcomes by department. In 2025, applications whose modules averaged 6.0 to 6.9 received offers in 71 of 92 cases in Aeronautics, 129 of 212 in Physics, 57 of 181 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and 58 of 180 in Mechanical Engineering.
What do Home WP and Overseas mean?
They are the groups Imperial's dashboard reports: Home applicants in widening participation (WP) and not, and Overseas applicants. Imperial's own pages explain who counts as WP.
Why is Design Engineering different?
It uses two modules, Mathematics 1 and Mathematics 2, so its department score is out of 18, not 27. Its outcomes also do not rise evenly with score: in 2025 its interviewed applicants without offers averaged 5.7, above offer holders at 4.7.
Is there ESAT data for Imperial Life Sciences?
No. Imperial published no 2025 ESAT outcomes for Life Sciences, so this tool does not cover it.
Why leave out zero scores?
A department score of 0 cannot come from real module scores, which start at 1.0. Imperial does not say what these records are, so we keep them out of the rates and show how many there are.
