Method
- Cambridge released every applicant's module scores and whether they got an offer, under Freedom of Information: FOI-2025-1098 for Engineering and FOI-2025-1026 for Natural Sciences.
- We average each applicant's three module scores and put applicants into one-point bands: 1.0 to 1.9, 2.0 to 2.9 and so on, with 8.0 to 9.0 at the top. The average is our summary; Cambridge publishes no combined ESAT score and no module weighting.
- In each band we count applicants and offers and give the share with a 95% Wilson range. Bands with fewer than 30 applicants show counts only.
- Your three scores are averaged the same way and matched to a band. Engineering applicants averaging 6.0 to 6.9: 78 of 318 got offers, 24.5% (95% range 20.1% to 29.5%).
Uncertainty and limits
- These are 2025 applicants. Later years' scores sit on their own year's scale and the applicants change, so the same score may not mean the same next year.
- Checked by learning the band rates on 80% of applicants and predicting the other 20%: bands beat a flat course-wide rate (Brier score 0.094 against 0.116 for Engineering), but held-out offers ran a little higher than predicted for all three courses.
- A separate Cambridge release of Home and international module averages (FOI-2025-982) matches all twelve averages rebuilt from these rows, to its rounding.
- The official Natural Sciences totals include 70 applicants and 4 offers with no released scores, and 9 Engineering applicants have incomplete scores. None of them are in any band.

What the answer means
The share of 2025 applicants with a similar average who received an offer. It is not your chance of an offer. Grades, interviews, college and written work all count, and no release gives interview figures, so no interview rate can be shown. Domicile is not fee status, and no score is safe or hopeless.

Questions people ask
What ESAT score do you need for Cambridge Engineering?
Cambridge publishes no cut-off. In 2025, Engineering offer holders' three module scores averaged 6.3. Offer rates rose with score: 6.5% for applicants averaging 4.0 to 4.9, 21% for 5.0 to 5.9, 24.5% for 6.0 to 6.9, 35% for 7.0 to 7.9 and 51% for 8.0 to 9.0.
Do international applicants need higher ESAT scores?
In 2025, Engineering offer holders averaged 5.7 if their domicile was the UK and 7.3 if it was elsewhere, and international applicants also scored higher on average. Domicile means where the applicant lives; it is not fee status.
What ESAT score do you need for Natural Sciences?
No cut-off is published. In 2025, offer holders averaged 6.2 on the Physical route and 5.6 on the Biological route, and about a quarter of scored applicants on each route received an offer.
Can you get an interview rate by ESAT score?
Not from these releases. Cambridge's FOI answers give applicant and offer figures but no interview figures, even when asked for them, so an offer rate must never be read as an interview rate.
Why average the three modules?
Only to group similar applicants. Cambridge publishes no combined score or weighting, so the tool also keeps your separate module scores in view, and a strong module may not make up for a weak one.
