Which ESAT modules does my course need?
Every ESAT candidate sits Mathematics 1. What goes with it is set by the course you apply to, and you choose it when you book, not on the day.
Which course are you applying for?
2027 entry. Course List 2027 Entry, UAT-UK, last updated April 2026. Checked 8 August 2026. Module choices cannot be changed or added after booking without cancelling and re-booking.
Three kinds of requirement
Fixed. The course names an exact set and you register for all of it. Most engineering and physics courses sit here at Mathematics 1, Mathematics 2 and Physics, and most biology and biochemistry courses at Mathematics 1, Chemistry and Biology.
Free choice. The course names Mathematics 1 plus a number of modules taken from a stated set, and any combination of that size satisfies it. Cambridge Natural Sciences, Cambridge Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Cambridge Veterinary Medicine, Oxford Biomedical Sciences and UCL Electronic and Electrical Engineering all work this way.
Two modules only. Imperial Design Engineering asks for Mathematics 1 and Mathematics 2 and nothing else.
Where one of your courses fixes its modules and another leaves a choice, the fixed course decides the choice. Where two courses fix different sets, one booking may not cover both, and UAT-UK asks you to contact them before booking rather than guess.

Durham, LSE and Warwick appear on the same official list for the TMUA and have no ESAT row on it, so they are not here. If your course is not listed, the official course list and your course page are the authority, not us.

Module choices cannot be changed or added after booking without cancelling and re-booking.
Each module is 27 questions in 40 minutes, timed separately, with no calculator. Once you know your set, see what a good score looks like on it, put a mark through the score converter, or work out which optional module suits you with the subject-selection quiz.
