Worked solution

The route in 4 steps

  1. Multiply the first vector by the scalar: 2u=(6,8)2u=(6,-8).

  2. Subtract the second vector componentwise: 2uv=(6,8)(5,2)=(1,10)2u-v=(6,-8)-(5,2)=(1,-10).

  3. The squared magnitude is 12+(10)2=1011^2+(-10)^2=101.

  4. Therefore the magnitude of 2uv2u-v is 101\sqrt{101}.
